A larger yarding of 5500 head went under the hammer at the Roma Store Sale on Tuesday where values for steers eased a few cents on last week.

A few extra restockers in the buyers’ panel pushed weaner prices to a high of 191c/kg but steer values were generally down 2-5c/kg and reflected the mixed quality yarding.

The Roma Store Index was unchanged at 93 points for the third consecutive week.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topped at 168c/kg and averaged 152c/kg (-9) while steers in the 350-400kg range reached 168c/kg and averaged 157c/kg (+0) and steers in the 280-350kg range reached 191c/kg and averaged 162c/kg (-2).

Weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 191c/kg and averaged 175c/kg (+8) while weaners under 220kg topped at 188c/kg and averaged 176c/kg (+3).

A quality heifer offering faired better with strong competition pushing top prices 10c/kg above the best rates of last week.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 152c/kg and averaged 135c/kg (+1) while heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 186c/kg and averaged 142c/kg (+2).

Weaner heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 192c/kg and averaged 161c/kg (-2) while heifers under 220kg topped at 192c/kg and averaged 168kg (+1).

Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 130c/kg and averaged 105c/kg (-9) while cows in the 300-400kg range reached 96c/kg and averaged 90c/kg (-4).

Cows and calves sold to $580/head.
